Need quick help,,, I am putting in a new remanufactured engine and I have a 1987 Bronco 2 withe a 2.9L and an A4LD auto trans. . My question is, should the torque converter turn freely while mounted in the tranny? I pushed in and turned as Hard as I could to see if it would seat any further into the tranny and it wouldn't go any further in but it still spun freely and I was wondering if that is correct in the nature of the torque converter?
Internal fluid pressure is what 'locks' one half of the converter to the other half. This pressure is created by the spinning of the converter.
So when the converter is not spinning there is no fluid pressure. As a result the converter will spin freely by hand.

Thanks for the quick help. I've done this before but it was SOOOO long ago that I forgot if it was correct or not, and my book is VERY vague(go figure)! Again thanks.
