My 5.4L has the coil on plug design. It's had all but 3 coils replaced already (24000mi on odo) The dealer says nothing else is wrong but something has to be. Has anyone else had more than one replaced at once or within a short period of time/miles? Does any one have any ideas?
I had to replace one on my truck because the CE light came on DURING the test drive I took it on (private party). I got the guy to knock $500 off the truck though because of it. That was about 1 month ago. Today my wife had my truck and while she was going to the store the CE light came on again. She brought it home and I think ANOTHER coil is out on it (feels just like it did wheh the first one went). I the truck only has 3 original coils on it now with one being changed shortly that only leaves 2. I am tempted to swap all the rest out so hopefully I'll be done swapping coils for a while (the 5 other coils were all replaced in the last 1.5 years). My truck has 108,000 miles on it though. On another note is this coil just a really poor design or what? Seems to eat a LOT of coils. Why can't the aftermarket make better ones if the originals are no good?
