Hey does anyone have some suggestions on heads I should look for. I plan on getting a set of heads to do some mild porting on and have rebuilt to put on my engine next spring.
I don't want to spend a lot, no aluminum or high dollar heads. Maybe something I can get from the junk yard.
Part #'s, cars and years to look at would be nice.
I am not looking for tons of HP, just good cores that are capable of 400-450hp.
Thanks

the best thing to do is get a set of stock 390 heads, preferably ones that have not been milled before, and get the usual changed out on them i.e springs, valve seat, so you can burn unleaded fuel, the usual. have a 2 or 3 angle valve job done on the heads and they will flow muck better than stock. all this will probably only be 2 or 3 hundred bucks. try JOHN SALVAGE in san Antonio, Texas. this guy has a school bus with all the seats torn out, and shelfs in there place just full of 390 heads.
Thanks, but I was hoping for something a little better than just the garden variety 390 heads, I already have a spare set of those. Just looking for the best cores to start the build with.
