Newbie

Hi, New to the; forums, diesels, and Fords. Always liked Fords just never owned one. Wanted to make the switch to diesel and decided mechanical injection would best suit me. Did some research and decided I liked the 6.9l. So here I am.
Now for the vehicle. Newly acuired 87 F250 HD XLT Lariat, reg. cab, T-19 4-speed, 2wd, 89,000mi. It's got some dents and dings as it was a farm truck, but no rust. Which is good for Kansas.
About me. I am a auto mechanic by trade. 45 years old. I did 4 years in the Navy in the early 90's. "Brown shoe" for all you hardcore "boat" people, don't hold it against me I'm a "black shoe" at heart.
Well that's about it. If you have any questions about me or anything else don't hesitate to ask. Chris S.

Hi Chris, welcome aboard. You picked what most say is the most desired year of the 6.9. Is the 89,000 on it the first or second time around? lol You should be good either way.

Ahhh! That takes all the fun out of it. Now we don't get to feel like we know everything. When most newbies get on he and start asking whats this and what kind of stark plugs does it have we get to show them how much we know.

Welcome to the club anyways.

Thanks for the warm welcome! farmert: almost positive it's the first 89,000. It had original belts and hoses and other than dents dings and scratches is pretty clean. finitetime: yes the old "time to change the spark plugs in the diesel" won't work on me!

But what about your distributor cap and rotor?

Welcome to the forum. I came here with good mechanical knowledge, but no real diesel experience. Learned a lot from being here and doing the work on my truck.

Yep! Won't fall for that one either!

I'll tell you what did stump me for awhile though was when I heard about "run on" and stuck "wide open". I was "why not just shut the key off?"
