Flow Tech Long Tube Headers INSTALLED.

Well after having my headers laying around for 2 months they are finally installed on blue...77 f100, 302, auto. Here is the truth of how the install went. Remove spark plugs and wires both sides, and remove valve cover retaining bolts ( i think thats what they are called). Drivers side they fell right in with slight wiggeling around brake lines and power steering gearbox. But that side was a breese.

Passengers side was a differ story. Well tried to drop them right in from the top and bottom...that was not happening. Clearance issue rubbing on frame and starter and transmission cross member ( i think thats what its called ). So initially we dented the area that was rubbing on starter ( as it said in one forum) clearing started now. Adressed rubbing on frame. Took 1/4 inch of frame area. Now to clear trans cross member area. Loosen bolt that holds in trans and loosen motor mounts both sides. Lift engine about 1.5-2 inches. How we lifted engine was kind of unorthadox. Made a "T" out of small 2 by 4 blocks and put under slight dimple of engine block right behind balancer. Lifted up pretty easy. Pass side header dropped in from the top, drops in from the top. Bolted them all in, put everything back together and checked for leaks and now she sounds alot better. Next step weld in a 3" exhaust system.

Took my whole afternoon but Im just happy they are in and sounding good. For being just a do it yourself guy and my buddy being a welder by trade we did ok in my book. Im sure there might have been another way but researching all the forums and google searching i found 10 ways to do this. But it is possible!

What is the model number for these headers? Am considering Flowtechs for my 74 with 302 and AOD but am worried they might not clear the transmission. How is the clearance between your headers and the transmission, especially on the drivers side?

Not sure about model No. I just went to advance auto and asked for long tubes for 302. Well I have a B & M shifter as well so that is cable driven...and I know the stock shift linkage is kinda bulky down there and i have heard there is some clearance issues there too, so i would look into that too. But as far as the tranny goes i have the c-4 and there was no clearance issues with that on the drivers side.
