transmission swap
I have a 1970 F100 sport custom w/ a 302 and a three speed manual. Does anyone know what four speed i can replace it with?
I have been told their are two types of 4 speeds, each has a differant shifter. Would i be able to use the stock bellhousing or do i need to get a differant one?
last but not least my truck has a low transmission hump, will a 4 speed actually fid down their?
Any information you could provide on this swap would be very helpful.

You have quite a few options for your 302. I'll hit a couple of them, since I did something similar to my truck.
1. Your first option is to replace your 3 speed with a Toploader 4 speed. The only differences between your three speed and the Toploader are that the Toploader is longer (you will need to get your driveshaft shortened), the speedo gear is different, and you might need to find a drive-shaft yoke (since some of the 3 speed used a bolt-on yolk). Depending upon the Toploader you get (the speedo gear location on the Toploaders differs) you may need to get a longer speedo cable as well. Toploaders come in two flavors; a 1:1 4th gear (which is a bullet-proof tranny), and a 3+1 "Mexican" overdrive version (which is not renowned for its durability but would probably hold up fine behind your 302). I went with a 1:1 4th gear Toploader, but 4th in the Toploader will be the same as the 3rd you currently have.
Check out this webpage for stuff about 1:1 Toploaders:

2. Your other option is to stuff a T-5 or Tremec TR3550 or TKO behind your 302. All three trans are 5 speeds (4th is 1:1, 5th is usually .68:1), were "car" trannys (i.e., 1st won't be a granny gear) and are used by the Mustang race-crowd. Look in some of the Mustang mags for places which sell kits to retrofit a T-5 into older Mustangs and you'll probably get everything you'd need to swap a T-5 into your truck.
This place has a helpful page for identifying truck trans, if you decide to look for a 3+1 Toploader.

Hope all this helps.
