I have an idea.....let me know what you think. We don't have a dyno shop anywhere local around here and I would imagine it is somewhat pricey even if you do have access to one. Then you need at least two tests on it (before and after a mod). Anyway, what about taking it to the track, establish a baseline on performance, and as you add mods.....take it back and see if you improved. Your track time will tell you something. I know it's not as good as a dyno and track conditions, reaction time, weather and the like will interfere with results but I believe everyone has access to a local drag strip. Here on Fridays nights, $20 bucks will get you several passes and it's a lot of fun too.
What would be fun would for everyone here in this forum who runs their head {me especially} to meet at a track and have a shootout, for braggin rights!Maybe something we could plan, but it sure would be tough to get everyone together, but it would be fun.
Way back when my truck was new I did the dyno thing at the invite of the North Texas boys on Ford-Diesel web site. NoMO and some other V10 guys showed up.
Later I posted my STOCK numbers and some local( Austin) PSD boys started giving me the race dare jive. A couple of us met one Saturday at a mutual location (I picked) at Inks Lake State park.
One of the louder fellows had a long bed 4 door 10" lifted PSD with all the go fast steroids for the oil burner. ( Beautiful truck).
He just sneered at my lowly stock Platinum Edition V10 on Steltex and started talking smack.
So we lined up and ran on down the road 1/2mile or so and He beat me by about 40 feet. ( my excuse "stock = rev limit of 5000 rpm and MPH limit of 95")
So I smiled and said I had a new game.
Lets each take a turn at Park road 4 to the end and back for total elapsed time. About 16 miles each way up n down hills off camber curves, narrow sweepers, and a few long stretches.
My stock 6800LB truck took a full 3 minuets less that his Monster Machine. No real moral
Z71 Killer just got me rememberin is all
