Just thought of something else....Didn't think much of till just now: Took plug out of fuel pump to drain and it never really quit running out. Slowed to a small drip, but didnt quit like when usually does when changing filters..... Just a thought, may not mean a thing.
I dont want to steer you wrong but I would want to know what the fuel pressure is. did you think to look at FICM v when it was messing up?
Same here. Fuel pressure seems like a long shot, but that's all I can think of at this point so long as the FICM is good, the HPO is good, and there are no injector leaks.
Was the FICM reading okay when the truck began acting up? When mine went I never messed around with checking fuel pressure etc... it was under warranty, so I called Ford Roadside Assistance and they came and towed it to the shop. Your issue might be fuel related though by the sounds of it.
FICM was good, ICP was good, IPR was good, EOT was 209 the first time it happened.. 2nd time, was same except EOT was 190....its like it starving for fuel, then runs out... Didnt happen where i could jerk filter cap off real quick to see if had fuel or not, was trying not to get ran over.....
Just did Blue spring during the HG, a new head, and few other high dollar items....only thing i didnt replace last week was the FICM and the Fuel pump.....FICM is a year old, not that it matters....
I'm a little late to this discussion, but I'm going to echo what Benny (Blade35) said. I think your getting air in the fuel system at the primary filter/HFCM. As much as I hate to say it...might be worth your sanity to pull the filter, replace the o-ring, cover with a generous amount of clean lube oil and reinstall. That would explain the air bubbles in the secondary filter housing. The other thought would be cracked cap, but I'm thinking you'd have fuel leaking/seepage on the cap if it was cracked.
The draining of fuel from the secondary housing could be the fuel slowly going back to the HFCM via the return line. With the cap off there's no "vacuum" to keep the fuel in the secondary housing. I don't think there's a "drain plug" in the secondary filter housing like the oil filter has.
How did you confirm the injectors are good/not allowing air into the fuel system?
