It's 12 1/2" from the block to the top of the tube.
Would you mind also measuring from the bottom of the dip stick to the full mark. It's 1 13/16" on mine but I noticed a mark above the full line. It may be a scratch but perhaps someone scribed it for this reason. Thanks again.

Perhaps we are getting somewhere! Attached are pictures of where I laid the measuring tape so you can do yours likewise. My tube length is 14 3/8" measuring across the bottom. The full mark on my dipstick is 2 1/4". However, I'm not much further off the noob-o-meter than you are, so that call to Chuck's would be well advised.

Yes...I think that we may have solved it.
First of all I measured my tube from the high side. When I remeasured as you did on the low side of the tube the measurements are dead on at 14 3/8". A picture is indeed worth a thousand words!
When I looked closely at the dip stick, I noticed what looked like scribe marks. At first I thought that it might have just been a scratch but it looked too deliberate. The first picture shows a small line just above the word "FULL" and is about 2 5/8" from the bottom. The second is on the back of the stick and looks like the letter "L". That is about 1 13/16" from the bottom which would correlate to a quart low. These are very close to the measurements on your stick. You will also note that my dip stick markings are very different than the one in your picture. I'll give Chuck a call in the AM but I'm fairly certain that we've solved this one.
