Have an 88 E150 w/302 EFI. Ran great up till 2 days ago. Wouldnt start in the morning. Acted like no spark but checked for spark and had it at the plugs. With key on could hear fuel pump run for a few seconds and have fuel pressure in the fuel rail. It would just crank without a hint of firing. Came back about 2 hours and it started immediately with no hesitation whatsoever. Next morning did the same thing. Replaced TFI module, no help still wont start first thing in the morning.. But once it starts it runs fine all day even after shutting it off but after setting overnite, wont start until its cranked for an hour or so or left alone and tried a couple hours later? Outside temperature about the same morning and nite. Appreciate any advice, suggestions.
Did some more checking and with key-on fuel squirts out of the fuel bleeder when depressed. Then cranked a while, removed a plug and it was dry. Its as if none of the injectors are working. What controls the injectors? Are they fused or dependant on anther sensor? The pattern has been that if I continue to crank it will eventually start and run great until next morning. Appreciate any help.
Man I totally know what you are talking about!!!! Mine has been doing this for about 3 months now. I have been trying to read up on it to find out what can do to fix this. It has embarrased me on many ocassions now. I even took it to the shop and left it overnight and what do ya know mechanics hopped right in an cranked right up. I have posted in this forum and have recieved some information that migt be helpful to yo check out this link https://www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/DCForumID39/5404.html.
Maybe something there might be useful. This stinks because I know that I am getting spark and I can even smell fuel when I crank on it too much. Sounds like we have the exact same problem.
Thanks for the tip on the web site will check it out. Meamwhile i've taken out the Throttle Position Sensor and checked it with am ohmeter. It tested OK. But would still like to replace it. If new ones are reasonably priced Ill change it and let ya know what happens.
Any luck? I think that I may have found my problem. I pulled the wires off my distributor one by one and inspected them. Wouldn't you know it, the very last one I checked was the coil wire going to the distributor. I noticed that it had somewhat of a dimple from where the wire had been resting on the corner of something right in front of the coil. I have not replace the wire yet but simply moving it away and my truck started right up this morning. I think that something was drawing fire from my distributor. Although the wire never had a bare spot it still arced and had white hot spots in that area. The good thing is that it works for now. I hope your problem is this simple but does not take you nearly as long to find.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Sep-02 AT 09:10 AM (EST)]Thanks for the tip NavFlyer glad you found your problem. Ill check all my wires. As usual wouldnt start again this morning. But I think my problem is fuel. After cranking for a minute or 2 I pull a spark plug and its dry, no gas. Theres gas in the fuel rails and its under pressure but the injectors dont seem to be firing. Will keep looking. Thanks.
