Great work Chris, it sounds like you have a similar work plan; run out to the garage for a few minutes until you get called in to do something else. Although you are moving much faster than me.

If you want to do some repairs, you can come visit me. I would let you repair to your hearts content. I've got one of those new-fangled 55's though.

Neat neat neat build! You just can't beat the story! I have a '47 1/2 ton that I first saw when I was 10 or 12 years old. My buddy's dad had built it as a hot rod in the mid 60's. In a weird turn of fate I got the opportunity to buy it a few years ago from a different buddy - the truck was unchanged from the 60's. I rebuilt the brakes and drove it as is, but hated the stock brakes (I tow a dragster with mine) so I too upgraded to discs (a great move) - I was afraid of the stock rear and barely narrowed a 9" for mine (stock-ish width). Just a couple weeks ago I added power steering - I can't wait to drive it and test it, but that will wait till the weather breaks. My goal was to make some improvements for towing but look as close to the same as when I first saw it 35 years ago. Which is why I made every effort the keep the original column and wheel. Keep up your updates - it's great to follow along!

Chris the truck is looking good I am just catching up on this tread. Now that the holidays are over have you made any more head way on your build? Also from the photo with the sheet metal mocked up I noticed you have a nice shop / garage. I really like your wood burner set up ! I'm sure you have been putting it to good use this week.
And a built in a/c unit....... You are the MAN !! Keep up the good work and please keep us updated.

Just a quick bump to the top. My 46 is just sitting, waiting its turn while I work on the 52... I hope to mess with later this fall.

You were supposed to finish THIS one first! Besides, it has had to wait longer than the 52...

Awesome

Chris,
You're doing a hell of a job for a home garage. Your story and build thread inspired me to post my build on here. You see my Father and I were supposed to do mine as a teenager but, by now I'm sure you know how fast parts add up. I really like what you did to modify the 1 ton to 1/2 ton fenders. We are actually doing the same exact thing because my orignals were too far gone and I sourced a 1 ton also. I don't know what your plans are for the truck or your personal taste but I would definitely recommend lowering the stance some if you'd like. Thanks once again buddy. I wish you the best of luck and am looking forward to more updates!

I hope you don't fall into the trap of restoring more than a person can handle and get done with one project alone yet alone 2 . Happy Holidays .

GB... Thanks for those kind words. Your skills are way beyond mine! My only true skill not to be afraid to try something I have never done before.

I will be back on the 46' soon enough. I'm making the 52' a D.D., then I will concentrate on the 46' more. I really want the 46' to be nice!

Good to see you not neglecting Earl.
Two projects would have my head spinning.

Nice progress on Earl! I can't imagine working on two projects at the same time. Of course I can't walk and chew gum at the same time either. Good call on finishing the DD first. Earl doesn't seem to mind the wait.
