I have a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport 4x4. It will not start - does not turn over, only clicks. I put a new battery in and still only clicks. Just before it broke down, I was driving and the power died for maybe a half of second (if the radio didnt go off, I may have thought that it just hessitated).
So when that occurred, I thought maybe my altenator was going, but then when it wouldnt start, and the new battery did not help, now I am not sure that there is any wrong with the alt.
We also tapped the started to no avail.
I know electrical is tough to answer - but does this sound familiar to you? Any ideas on how I can get it started? Any ideas? thanks
When you try and start it, do the other electrical accessories also die down??? A good test is... turn the headlights on, and try and start it. If the headlights stay fairly bright, then I would suspect the starter/solenoid. If they dim or go out, then it could be a battery or connection problem.
If this is still your first battery, it is possible it just died by residu at the bottom and connected the plumbumplates. It won't accept any charge anymore.
Yes, that can occur all of a sudden, replace the battery.
Tony.
