With the two-tone look, I think the white wagon wheels look spot-on and period correct. The only thing I would add for detail is a red pinstripe on the wheel lip. That is, if it's rarely sees mud cuz it'll get abraded quickly.
In terms of staving off corrosion, get 'em powdercoated.
up here in the rust belt, chrome and painted steel can be short lived.
Sure they are cheap, but they are also heavy and they don't last very well on the salted winter roads.
Aluminum cuts the weight, less rotating mass, it might give a fractional MPG advantage.
Aluminum also doesn't rust.
Arizona so do not have to worry about corrosion too much

I have been leaning toward keeping the white spoke look
personally i would recommend that you stay with white spokes but jump up to 16's if you can the tires are tougher and generally cheaper dont forget to take off the wheels and paint the axle and brake drums it takes a couple minutes and makes it look much better

I love slots but wagon wheels are also the way to go,there is a bump that post here out of Texas 4x4 with wagon wheels and man do they look good on his truck,My first dent had white american racing red and blue pin,what can you say classic,your truck classic also I like the idea of powder coat, yep especially with the white bumper
