No Oil

2001 F-250 4x4

What could cause the oil from the HPOP to drain away?

Truck quit so i checked and there was no oil in HPOP.

Filled up with oil then lost plug to tank.
Got a bolt to work for the tank but truck still doesnt start?

Isn't there check valves in the HPOP that fail and lets the HPOP drain, ???? Heard of that in previous threads.

Mike is right, there is a check valve that can stick and allow the oil to drain back and empty the res. Ken, the oil system is not separate in the HPOP, it is still supplied from the LPOP and is all the same oil. Goes from the HPOP through the injectors and drains back to the oil pan. So, a weak LPOP will cause the HPOP to run dry and shut truck down.

Pull the bolt out and put a gauge in the hole. Watch the pressure while cranking. If you're not building any pressure, the LPOP isn't pumping oil.

So, the HPOP cavity should see the full low-side oil pressure? This sounds like an easy way to measure your LPOP output, right?

It might be easier to find a fitting to fit where the EOP sensor goes. You can remove the EOP sensor and use it to find a matchng fitting. If you are goig to use a mechanical gauge you won't need the EOP sensor anyway and can just re-install after testing.

Filled up the HPOP res and tryed to start the truck , it didnt start.

Checked oil level and it was still up so I guess that wasnt the problem.

The tach moves when turning the truck over?

What fuse is it that goes when the heater shorts out?

Is there a way to test the CPS?
