Guys - I can't figure out out to turn off the beeping while backing up to my fifth wheel or bass boat trailers to hook up. I know on my old 6.0L there was a buttom on the dash you pushed to turn it off when not needed. Please advise how this can be done on my new truck???
at least on mine, as soon as I put the truck into reverse, a dialog appears on the dash, Backup Assistance (on or off).. , so I scroll down to off, and press Ok, and it stops beeping for this start.
the dialog does not appear if there is a trailer with brakes attached.
Wow! I am not getting anything that pops up and to give me the option of selecting off or on for the beeping. If I do a system reset do you think that would fix that problem? I have only had this thing one week and am still trying to learn all the fancy stuff.
Are you referring to the backup beeper mounted at the rear of the truck, outside speaker? Or the one Sam describes on your dash?
The external backup alarm is connected with a wire harness under the driver side of the truck at the rear by the tail light. Way under there should be something plugged into a blue colored connector where the wiring splits to feed the tail lights and the trailer plugs.
I just want to be able to turn it off when required. I like it most of the time and it is a big help; just not when backup with my boat trailer hook up. It beeps the entire time and I am not given the option to turn it off when I shift it into reverse.
REAR PARK AID (if equipped)
This feature sounds a warning tone to warn the driver of obstacles near
the rear bumper, and functions only when R (Reverse) gear is selected.
Press RESET to turn this feature on or off. You can also choose to turn
this feature on/off when the vehicle is placed in reverse.
I don't find any info on the external backup alarm accessory
Thanks....I was not referring to an external beep, just the one inside the cab. If I gave that indication, I am sorry. Thanks for the information. Mine is not giving me any option when I shift into reverse for some reason.

hm.. I get the backup aid with NO trailer attached, every time I go into reverse..
when i put mine in reverse an message pops up on the display. it has the options of either on off. hit the down button once (to off) and hit enter and it stops. it defaults back to on by itself
do you have the "Full Message Display" it shows oil and trans temp, fuel milage screens, system info, etc.....i think its standard on lariats but is an option on XLT's
Do you get a warning when the parking brake is engaged and you put it in drive?
Does the backup camera work?
Does your 7-pin trailer socket work? Brakes and all?
It could be hardware and it could be software. A switch, a wire, or corrupt BCM or PCM.
Any other gremlins? Have you installed any components? Tuner, nav unit, radio, or a lock pick?
Well guys - I have solved the problem. The problem centered around the My Key function. I was using one of those key that had been programmed and not an admin key. I followed the directions to erase the key and now I have control of all aspects of the truck once again. I guess someone had hit the " My Key create" function. Any way, all is well and thanks for all your advice and questions.
