I have a 1966 Econoline Superan that I'm buying, and I need help decoding the VIN so I know what engine I have, etc... I'm new to the forum and older vehicles as this is my first vehicle period. The VIN is E16FH749727. Any help is much appreciated.
Welcome aboard; not saying folks here on 61-66 forum couldn't decipher your vin; but there's a Econoline & Ranchero forum; that might be more helpful. One of these day's I want to own a 62 5 window Econoline pickup. hope the one your getting is in great shape.
I agree with Customcab that you might be better served on the other forum. Nonetheless, I'll take a stab at decoding your VIN. E16 = Econoline Supervan. F= Engine code for 170 cubic inch I-6, 1 bbl. H = built at Lorain, Ohio plant. 749727 = built in September, 1965 as a '66 model. I'm sure Number Dummy will correct me if I have errored. Good luck with your project.

To clarify: Since historically (since the 1930's), new vehicle introduction time begins in September of the previous year, new vehicle production begins in August.
Therefore, there would not be any 1965's assembled in September 1965, just 1966's.
Swampy, welcome to FTE... Theres lots of info info on here some if which is unique to your Econoline and some that crosses over... Ive always liked the first generation E series so feel free to email me with any questions or anything else you may need.
