What plugs do you use?

No offense, but I'd be surprised to hear Bosch (or any other manufacturer - for that matter) say anything but good things about their own product

Ditto. Nothing like firsthand experience. I do have a bit of word of mouth experience. But coming from a chebby guy....

This is probably 35,000 miles.
Can anyone explain the buildup of crud on the one side of the plug?
I noticed that on all the plugs one side burned clean and the other side was filthy.

No explanation - but the right hand plug ( in the picture) appears to have been loose and has carbon buildup on the outside like a rich mixture would cause. I don't see anything like it in my "plug diagnosis" pic's - unless I get creative with combinations...

Nice pictures!

I REALLY need to get a digital camera. I have my last two sets of AP-45's, they looked too good to toss...even after 50K.

One of them was loose, but not the one with all the buildup.

What plugs do you use?

The standard Motorcraft copper plugs seem to wear out quickly in my truck. Last time I put in platinum Motorcraft plugs. We'll see how long they last. Some advised against it, but given that Motorcraft lists platinum plugs specifically for the 300 I6, I figured it would be OK. I believe the Motorcraft site has a discussion on several types of platinum plug--solid, plated, and wire--and that only the one (plated I think) was listed for the 300. One thing I noticed about the platinums (both mine and some I had for the Aerostar) is that you can wiggle the center electrode.

I run Autolite 5125's in my 300. Denso Iridium IT-20's in my Lightning.

I have never had any luck with plugs other than AC, Autolite, and Motorcraft. This is my first experience with Denso's in my own vehicle, but so far I like them. On customer's vehicles we use only AC, Autolite, or Motorcraft unless we can't get the correct plug without going to a different brand. 4 times out of 5 if we install anything but those 3 in a domestic vehicle it comes back for a miss, rough idle, or some other plug related problem.

What plugs do you use?

I just pulled a set of Champion truck plugs. I was so impressed with the way they looked I bought another set. They didn't look anything like yours. My 4.9 want's to run a a little lean, maybe that's the difference!

I've always used autolite or motorcraft in my 300's & 240, had good service with them too. Has anyone tried the Bosch plat.+4's in 2.0 ranger motor. I'm having one rebuilt now, and i would like to try them.

I run Autolites in everything. I'd use Motorcraft, but not very many parts stores stock them anymore. (Around here anyway.)
Chumpions used to be good plugs until they went to the coper core some fifteen or so years ago, they've been junk ever since. Almost as bad as AC, but not quite there yet.
For giggles I put Splitfires in something around here, I forget what. They didn't do a darn bit of good.

I've found Autolite, and Motorcraft to be good in my 4.9L engines over the years. Champ plugs were real garbage, and I would never use them again.

Amazingly quiet but i lost alot of the low end torque.

(I think I have Champion. But I want to put in a MSD system so I will be changing them.)

Question FI plugs in carbureted engine/head

I read in another forum (fordsix) that the use of plugs designed for fuel injected 300cid engines in 300cid carbureted engines will allow for better combustion and technically slightly better power (maybe even fuel economy?). Some guys, however indicated that doing this caused more pinging in their vehicles. Proponents of the idea say that the longer FI-plugs will position the flame closer and deeper in the carbureted head chamber (without hitting the piston) allowing for better burn of the air-gas mixture. Has anybody here tried this and had any good results (better power, fuel economy, more or less pinging)?

I am buying Motorcraft today. $3.53/each
Also Motorcraft Rotor ($27.99) and Cap ($7.99).
Just bought some Taylor wires ($90). They are Blue. (Woooooo)

In Canada (big land to the north) we don't have Autolite and I couldn't find Bosch for my truck.
Some say NGK are good. Champion are for Cryler/Dodge.
