Question unknown sub specs

My cousin gave me a box that has two 12's and 2 tweeters in it. They are pretty old as far as i know, but they work on my home sterio(160Watt). I have taken them out of the box to see what the wattage and ohms were, but they didnt say anything on the back. I was wondering how i could find out how much they were so i could get an amp, or is there a general power rateing that you would recomend to anyone regardless of what they may have?

No way to know. Who made them? How thick are the wires between the terminal posts & the cone? The thicker that they are, usually the higher the wattage. If there are no markings, they are probably pretty cheap speakers. Speakers are rated in RMS or peak. RMS (root mean squared) is the average power that they can tolerate. It is a more realistic rating. Peak is the max power that they can take for short durations, similar to a "duty cycle". If you put too much power into them they will burn up & possibly(probably) take the amp with them.
