An automatic. Dad's staying away from manuals in trucks, it's not his thing. And since he'll be payin for all this, what he says pretty much goes. I ain't about to complain about it though, I appreciate that he'll willing to pay for it. I checked in with Advanced Adapters earlier today, they didn't even have anything for the 460. Nothing that I saw, anyways.

I've never even heard of doing a swap like that. You'll need a controller for the trans but good luck finding a stand-alone unit. I have read about someone swapping in entire superduty drivetrains into broncos. You might have to swap the engine too to get the ecm and make sure the trans bolts up. It would be a cool swap if you wanted to but a lot of work.

Here's the arcticle. One has an '02 7.3l mated to the bronco's e4od and the other has an '06 6.0l/5r110 which I'm guessing is a 5 speed.

here's a page talking about putting the 5r110 into an OBS with a powerstroke. Doesn't sound like a worthwhile or cost-effective swap even if you can find an adapter for the 460.

If your dad likes auto's and you want more gears, then a gear vendors overdrive or some other OD unit behind the C6 would be easier and cheaper. An E4OD was available in your truck which is an OD auto. Like the ZF5 swap you could find a parts truck and swap everything over. You'd need to grab the ECM for the 460/E4OD combo too. The E40d isn't as strong as a C6 but can be beefed up to be.

Exactly what I was thinking. I really ain't a fan of all that. Yeah it'd be cool, but to much headache. So, I really only have a few options... C6, E4OD, or the ZF5... stock bolt ups, that is. The E4OD wouldn't give me to much gain, like one more extra mile. To long of a payoff in my opinion. Has anybody done any kinda adapter kit fro the 460?

You mean for the 460/5R110? I don't think so. I saw one for a cummins/5r110. I doubt anyone ever will because for the effort it takes, anyone would also do a diesel swap. Nobody is going to want to go to the trouble and still only get 13 MPG and only ~250hp/400 lb feet of tq.

Adding an aftermarket overdrive might actually be the easiest, though not the cheapest, option. The ZF5 would probably be the best all-around option.

I remember considering that option a while ago, adding an overdrive. As I recall, there was a company or product with the name Vendor in it. Vendor Adapters? Something like that. I looked into doing that or just swapping in an E4OD, and I went towards the E4OD for some reason... Can't quite remember. Maybe I'll look that up again. And I agree, I still think that the ZF5 is the best option. Why Dad doesn't agree, I have no idea. I'd need a RPM gauge though... I don't have one. I always wanted a RPM gauge. Just to see what I was running. Random thought, lol

The tach won't be an issue as they were an option on those trucks. My dad prefers automatics too (as do I honestly) but he has a bad back and just doesn't care for shifting anymore. He used to favor manuals.

Right now I'm in another tab looking for an adapter to other brand name transmissions (Chevy, Dodge, Ect). Maybe I'll call up Four Wheel Parts tomorrow and see if anybody there knows something. I'm basically looking for a transmission with as many gears as possible, preferably 5 or 6, that's strong enough to go with the 460. Dad just totally went off on me for asking again about the ZF5, so I'm gonna quit on that...

Some of the medium duty trucks had allison transmissions in them so maybe you could find one with a 460. Not sure what you're going to do about a transfer case. I guess if you have to you can find a divorced NP205 out of an old hi-boy.

Just get the zf5. Its a great transmission and since it came factory in these trucks it just bolts right up with zero fabrication or fancy adapters required. You can even buy a set of factory driveshafts so you dont have to lengthen or shorten them. In fact i think i have heard of some people using factory c6 shafts because the zf5 is only an inch longer, and if thats the case you can use your current shafts

This breaks my heart and makes me want to cry my eyes out. He is part of the masses, the 94% of people in this country who don't want to shift gears. I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!!

I hear ya. I won't buy a truck without a stick shift. Id rather be in charge of the gears and choose when I leave the powerband

So I saw on another thread that Gear Vendors makes a kit that basically makes a 3 speed C6 (which is what I have) into a 6 speed. They put a gear between 1st & 2nd, a gear between 2nd and 3rd, and then an overdrive gear. Called an under/overdrive kit. Seeing as the C6 is a pretty long trans, I can see how that would work. They split the gear ratios. I'm gonna call them up and see the details before calling up 4 wheel parts.. Looked at their website, and it looks legit. This may be my saving grace, hahaha

This I did not know, but I am glad you told me. My F250 is also the light duty F250 with the 5.0 but it came with an automatic. This engine is so underpowered and makes the little bit of power it does have at the wrong RPM for a 3/4 ton truck. I use 1st gear of my ZF most of the time to get going as well, becaue my engine can't really get my(way too big) tires rolling in 2nd.

Now that I know the Mazda tranny came in the light duty F250s it makes me wonder about the F250s that came through with the 300 I6. I know that the 300 I6 came in the regular F250 with a ZF bolted to them, but do you know if they ever made a light duty F250 with the 300 I6 and the Mazda tranny, or was the 302 the only engine option for the light duty F250?
