I AM TRYING TO REMOVE THE WATER PUMP, TO NO AVAIL. THE BOLTS FROM THE PULLEY TO THE WATER PUMP CANNOT BACK OUT. THEY ARE SO LONG THEY RUN INTO THE FAN BEFORE BECOMING FREE. I CANNOT TAKE THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY OFF OF THE ENGINE BECAUSE OF THE BOTTOM WATER PUMP BOLT. I CANNOT GET A WRENCH ON IT BEACAUSE THE WATER PUMP RIBS ARE IN THE WAY. I CANNOT GET A SOCKET ON IT BECAUSE THE PULLY IS IN THE WAY. DOES THE CLUTCH COME OFF, SO THE FAN CAN COME OFF, SO THE PULLEY BOLTS CAN BACK OFF? IF SO, HOW? HOW MANY BOLTS? WHERE????
Ther are 5 bolts total. Two in the back of the AC/Power Sterring assembly, one up front and clearly visible above the tensioner pulley, and two bolts at difficult locations. These two locations are inside iron housings directly to the left and right of the tensioner pulley. For the one on the right, I was able to access it by pushing down on the tensioner pulley (as if you were putting a belt on) and using a 13 mm socket with extender bar. For the one on the left, I used a 1/4 inch universal joint socket (13 mm socket) to get it loose (direct-straight in socket access not possible). Take four bolts off, leave the bolt that is clearly visible above the tensioner pulley in place and just loosen it. Then you can lift/rotate the entire assembly fron the right side enough to get water pump bolt #7 (the only one that is blocked) out. No lines need to be disconnected.
I also moved the AC compressor (3 easy bolts) and a bracket on the throttle body to get better access to the bolt that was right of the tensioner pulley (I couldnt get the fan clutch off). But if you can get the fan clutch off, you probably dont need to do this.
This is really hard to do without removing the fan clutch. A wrench on the fan clutch bolt and a tap with a hammer. Someone help here. Reverse nut on the fan clutch?
Since you already have the fan bolts loose, just wiggle on the fan and pull it off the water pump shaft. Then you should be able to spin the long bolts out.
