100K checkup noises.....
She's a 90 with a 2.9L, 5 speed and 2wd.....Unfortunately I have 2 new noises. the first one sounds like its from the top of the engine compartment, and there is no pattern to it at all. Doesn't matter whether I'm driving or sitting still it will click (sounds like when a rock comes up and hits the side of the bed). But there isnt even a set time between them. Could something be getting stuck open or closed and clicking when it works? It doesnt seem to affect her drivability (unless I dont realize it, which is entirely possible). I just dont want to get stuck. any ideas of where to start looking or pulling things apart?
the second noise is a non metallic tap. I 'm thinking it may be an exhaust leak, (small pressure pops continuously). Is there any easy way to check for this?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I think.
about the possible exhaust leak.. no idea. But it would be pretty common.

Okay, first off, the noise under the hood.... very hard to tell without being there to hear it. Does it seem to be comming from within the engine? I did my 100k tune up too, and during that time, I put some Lucas Oil Treatment in with the fresh oil, well, unfortionatly, I had a bunch of "gunk" in the motor, and that Lucas loosened it up and it gloged my dang oil pump. Well, not knowing this, I started it up, and (of course) got no oil pressure, but it made a pretty loud clicking sound, much like a rock hitting the bed. Anyways, it was the worst pain in the butt Ive ever had, so I really hope that this isnt the case with you.
Second question... one way that you can check for exhaust leaks... take a shop rag and start her up, and walk to your tail pipe and hold the rag over the pipe, you should get alot of feedback (pushing...pressure), and you should hear the exhaust pushing its way out of the end of the pipe. Just listen, and maybe with a friend under her, have the listen for any leaks, they should be fairly sound. Anyways, good luck, if I can help more, just let me know.

First of all let me say welcome to FTE!!
when your truck did that, was there any frequency to it? like this, I never know when its going to do it. she runs great. did you have a manual to change it? I'm ok with things the manual explains well. I'm going to try to get some work done on her this weekend, hopefully i'll have good news by monday.
btw I know the ac noise, its not that.
thanks for the help guys.
