Throwing Code 44 (thermactor failure, right side), looking to optimize MPG's through mods

I have my 91 351w 4x4 F150 throwing a code 44 error, which is not bad considering it's the only code thrown. Should I remove emissions system and instal headers and straight pipe, or replace my smog pump and retain OE specs?

The answer depends on many factors. The first of which is where do you live? Do you have emission checks?

I live in California but i know guy who can pass my smog test.

If it were me..I would fix the AIR system. If you start disabling and removing pieces it will make it very difficult to re-sale this to someone in California.

Hey sorry it took so long to respond, I installed a new Air pump and cleaned the vacuum system. the truck runs fairly well now, it shifts on time less lag and it feels smoother. thanks for the advise.
