Hey guys I did a headlight wiring upgrade this weekend and got everything working, or so I thought. I went to drive my truck this morning to find my stero wont turn on. I thought weird but ok no biggy and kept going to find out that my spedometer wasnt working and the odometer wasnt displying anything! I looked at fuses and some other things but I have no Idea why this is happening? Could the VSS do this? Any help would be great.
You shouldn't have screwed with anything inside the truck, but not sure where you cut into things.
I've seen relay kits that basically just plug into existing headlight sockets and then tap into 12v source. I've done the backyard version and build my own harness before.
Unless by some far chance one had nothing to do with the other, I guess you need to see where you spliced into and start there. If the radio fuse is good, then something went wrong downstream from that. Not sure where speedo gets its power?
The fuses in the panel look good im going to try to replace them anyway to rule that out. I made my own harness following a guide i found on here the only thing I cut would be the headlight harnesses going to the bulb connectors. This truck seems to be nothing but electrical issues
Well i picked the truck up a while back and had it sitting for a while then I finally got a list of things wrong with the truck and put about 2 grand to fix it all, I havnt had it on the road more then a month I think and bam here I have cel codes and know this im going to be afraid to touch this thing lol
I forgot to mention that to add to the odometer and the speedometer and all that the transmission is shifting hard and not like it had been in the past. The truck was sitting for a while but this seemed to be very strange
UPDATE: I replaced fuse #8 and it got my odometer and stereo back. Problem is I went to go test drive it and now it wont turn over. I hear a click but nothing else. Im thinking its a starter but im not sure. Battery is new maybe 3-4 months old. I just dont understand why replacing a fuse would kill my starter? Maybe something grounded that shouldnt be so fixing the fuse grounded the starter?
I would start taking a good hard look at the grounds. The one to the engine, the one next to the starter relay and the one on the driver side of the radiator support.
There could be a bad draw(short of sorts) and that is what caused the fuse to blow. Putting a fuse in put the draw back to it and that might have killed the battery.
