Yes. The axle shaft slides through it and it seals the back of the hub. All the parts stores around here keep telling me they can't order it, and the guy in the parts sector of the dealership look at me like I'm dumb when I asked.

Plus I don't like the fact that my axle tubes are sealed with red solo cups for the time being...lol.

Go back to your Ford dealer and ask for prices of the following part numbers:

BRS-170 Axle Dust Seal (the seal you're referring to)

5C3Z-3254-A Hub Seal (which you will need the Ford specific driver tool to install)

And before you call the parts guy (or me) an idiot when he pulls out that BRS-170 for you to see that it doesn't resemble your old seal in any way, it's not supposed to. It is a change-up to the same style that all the 2011 and up trucks now use. Hope this helps.

Hub to steering knuckle is the one I need. And I wasn't trying to be disrespectful at all towards anyone. The 170, is that the seal blade is also talking about, or is that the one that replaced little plastic ones that I have never seen in the axle shaft where it should be?

The biggest one, on the back of the hub that the yoke slides through.

It sounds like the 5C3Z-3254-A is the seal that you need by what you now describe. But I would definitely replace the BRS-170 as well, when you pull the axle shaft out of the housing. The BRS-170 is the seal that seals the inner side of the u-joint on the axle shaft to the housing. You will see that the the updated seal is a lot beefier than the original.

I get the feeling that BLADE35 isn't aware that we are talking about a 2005 and newer truck which is completely different from 1999 to 2004 trucks.

Thank you very much. I didn't know they were different than the 03-04 trucks. I should have specified. Can you give me a rough idea of cost for the two seals?
