OK everyone lets see if we can figure out what is going on with my 390!
I was driving my 66 ford f100 the other day and had a overheat problem this ended up being my water pump so no big deal there. I drove it on home and parked it in the shop and replaced the water pump. The replacement went well pretty easy job to do. after I got it all back together I tried to start the truck and i got nothin! I tried a couple of times and ended up getting a big backfire. The first thing I did was check for fuel which i had fuel then i went for spark. I pulled the plugges and I had spark. I then checked my ignition module and noticed that it was melted at the bottom. I went ahead and replaced it and still got nothin. my next thought was the pickup coil so i replaced that with no better results. my next thought was timing so i hooked up a timing light and found that i was way out on my timing. so I put number 1 to TDC and looked at my rotor it was pointing to number one so it seems to be in time. I also pulled the valve cover off to make sure that the valves were closed and they were. So I am now stuck I dont know what to check or replace next!! please help
2 things to try - have some one turn the engine over while you watch to see the rotor actually move.
Then take a compression reading in all cyiinders. You say you have spark and fuel so next check compression. Report back...
Any time it was running before working on it check your connections and grounds. Been there done that felt stupid when after spending time and money throwing parts at it and a buddy walks up and says "oh look your ground isn't attached".
