If the wear on the front rotor can catch your fingernail you need to think hard about replacement. Usually warning sign of wear is hard to get the caliper off the rotor and have to push the pads back a lot. At that point a good mic can give you a lot of feedback. If you have stainless shim/spacers clean em up well with steel wool and lube em up some with high temp grease. They are there for a reason use them.
Measure to make sure your new ones are the same thickness as the old ones. If they are thicker they might make up for the wear on the rotor, but too thick is not good.
ok front and rear brakes are at 25%, front needs rotors, they are warped
so since i need new rotors might as well change to the 4x4 version any easy way to do this?

Have to buy the 4x4 style hub. Centric is the only one i found that has them. once you have that its pretty straight forward. Be sure to get a new spindle nut, the ones on there are one use only.
I just finished the brakes on my 04 FX4 today. After resisting the urge to go big with slotted/drilled rotors, I went through Autozone mail order and got rotors and ceramic pads. I bought new e brake shoes from the local store, but I didn't need them.
Although I have mechanical skills, I'm almost 71, and I had a new hip installed 2 months ago...if I can do it, so can you. Just buy a repair manual for your truck...25 bucks or so.
i got the rear brakes done today, WOW what a difference, all pads were down to %25
for future knoledge do i have to remove the axles to replace the rear rotors? i know eed to get the front brakes done

Nope...remove the two bolts holding the rear caliper in place, use a screwdriver as a wedge to spread the old calipers apart if they don't want to come off the rotor, set the caliper on the axle, remove and replace the rotor (you may want to replace the parking brakes..I didn't..mine were fine) remove the pads, compress the wheel cylinder with a C-clamp so the new pads will fit over the rotor, install the new pads, reattach the caliper, mount the wheel, torque the lug nuts to 150 lbs.
I used the c_clamp worked like a charm. Rear axle was easy. Front axles well what is the teick to getting the back pad in thed caliper? The front pops inj. nice and easy, rear one foguht me last time an i ended up getting cut

The inside pads have a 3 pronged "spring" that pops into the wheel cylinder. Is that what you are talking about? I put the inside pad in first on the second install to give my hands more room after fighting the first install with the front pad in first...I put both hands over the pad, fingers on the caliper and thumbs on the pad...and squeezed...!!! Unless you are lined up perfectly it can be a pain, but a little patience, maybe a touch of grease on the tips of the prongs, and they should press in fairly easy.
