What is the best style of intake manifold gaskets to use on the 351W or 302?I am running an Edelbrock Performer intake so there is no valley pan like the stock cast iron 4bbl manifolds. So I dont need that gasket.
I would use what edelbrock recommends. I have had problems before sealing these aluminum manifolds, the aluminum expands at a different rate than the block and heads, so the sealing surfaces "scoot" a little bit during each warm-up and cool-down cycle.
Make sure you do not use any silcone around the ports where the fuel goes into the head. The fuel will turn the silicone into a goo. The fuel seems to disintegrate the silicone. If you must use some type of sealer around the fuel ports, use the permatex 2 type sealer, it's resistant to fuel.
Yes, use what Edelbrock recommends. I've heard of people having problems with some of the "lower quality" gaskets with Elel's intakes. I always clean surfaces with lacquer thinner and use Permatex Ultra Blue on the cork front and back strips. Don't forget to dab some where the sides meet the corks.
