B II rear hatch hinge rust problem
I have a '90 B II that has a totally rusted out area where the rear hatch hinges are located. It's rusted the whole width of the rear hatch.
The problem will soon be bad enough that the rear hatch may never be usable once the hinges come loose. I inspected the area today and can't figure out how to get that area replaced with new metal. The roofline just wraps down and under with no panel breaks. The cleanest metal is just below the downward curve under the hatch.
What kind of a shop can repair this type of problem? The rust is so bad now that I'm getting really worried and desperate. The truck is plain stock but it's such a fine little runner that maybe it's worth trying to get it fixed. This rust is the only bad problem.
I'm located in Homestead, just south of the Miami area. Your opinions and suggestions would be most welcome.
TIA,
Poz
(BTW - we have a Fla. Chapter now.)
It doesn't sound like you plan to do the work yourself so I would imagine just about any reputable autobody shop would be able to fix your problem.
Take it so a few different shops and get estimates. You might also check with a local welding shop. If you find that the cost of repair is more than can or will afford, you could try and weld patches in yourself. I'm not that familiar with Bronco's so I don't know what's available, but you can always do like we did with our door bottoms and have a metal shop fabricate the pieces for you.
Here's a great link to give you a little idea of what's involved in welding in patch panels.
