I have a friend with a 1987 Ford truck ( I think original ) 351 Windser in need of a carb. Is there a way for me to figure out which carb he's needing?
are you looking for a stock replacement or aftermarket? That truck might have had the 351w H.O so it came stock with a 4 barrel carb and intake. I put an edelbrock 650 on the HO engine I put in my 78,it ran a lot better then it did with the stock carb!!
Thank you for the response. I'm pretty new into Ford so in the learning phase. I don't think it makes a difference on if he goes stock or not. Mainly I believe he just needs a carb.
1987 was the last year for carburetors in Ford pickups.
Only 8,500# gvw and up, only the 351HO and the 460.
They were Holley 4180's built for Motorcraft.
Your profile isn't filled out, but these were emissions carbs. So if you have emissions testing like California you will have to rebuild the original or purchase the same carburetor.
If you can go aftermarket I would recommend something with vacuum secondaries, electric choke and 600CFM.
Edelbrock makes the 1406 and Holley makes the 4160 series.
