dying vinyl seat cover

Does anyone have experience dying a vinyl bench seat? If so, what did you use, how did it turn out, how did it hold up and most important I guess, would you do it again?
The seat, which was in the truck when I bought it, is not original to the truck. The blue vinyl bench is covered in a black vinyl seat cover (hotter than heck this time of year) hog ringed to the original. I would like to remove the after market cover and if the original is in decent condition dye it red to match the interior. ( If on the other hand I remove the cover and the seat is torn or worn, I’m out of luck cause I doubt I’ll get the cover back on as good as it is now). Your thoughts.

I sold a beautiful black vinyl bench seat to my buddy; for his 65 F100; he spray dupicolor blue vinyl paint after he wipe it down real clean with alcohol. Came out great.
I would bet the seat cover under your black one is crack; that's the main reason people cover over them.

I have dyed a bunch of vinyl with great success using PPG vinyl dyes. Including seats and door panels etc. A few important steps before you do but will work well.

Actually there is a easy and cheap way to do carpet also. Change color or add color if its faded.

These door panels used to be brown...
