electrical question / filter question

2005 f350 superduty crewcab fx4 lariat 100,000 miles

electrical issue; i had an intermittent glitch where the radio, (although you can load and unload cd's) map lights, visor lights and power windows go out but come back on. Now they are out for good. It is not the relays, any ideas? Someone told me there is a computer behind the dash. True? If so where?

There is a filter in front of my passenger side wheel well, i believe a filter for the coolant? Can i unscrew this how much fluid will come out, should i clean it or replace it? I never knew it was there, i have put 60,000 miles ontruck. What is it, when to change it and any tips.

Also i checked my egr valve the other day, the orings were torn, and the valve seemed to be stuck closed. I cleaned it up nice, vaccumed out the hole, the valve moves nice, i replaced the orings and put it back in. Next day the truck bogged and blew black smoke, for a couple hours. seems fine now. Any thoughts? Was my valve not working properly when it was stuck closed? Should i look for anything?

Thank you all in advance, this is a great forum.

Would be nice to see a picture of this "filter" you are seeing.

Is it an actual filter or the silver case with a nut on the bottom? If its the case it's the transmission external filter. Not much fluid will come out about a qt or so.

Egr most likely got solvent in the holes of the body causing the valve to stay open, happens again it's time to replace the valve.

thank you
i guess it is thetrans filter. it looks like a filter housing w nut part of the body of it.

it does seem to be running sluggish here and there. My egr valve was stuck in the in position, is that open? I had to push/pry it out. How do you know if it is stuck open, do you have to pull it out, or will the truck run funny/sluggish or smoke?
I didn't notice anything in the truck running differently that is different now, other than a bit of smoke after i replaced orings.

If the egr valve is acting up, best thing to do is to replace it. Believe tousley ford has the best price but I could be mistaken.
