Painting raw steel

I am getting ready to prep a new bed and running boards for my 53 f100. All parts are new and never had paint and there looks like some kind of oily film on them. What type of chemical should I clean or wipe them down with before putting primer on them?

While some might use lacquer thinner I use a wax and grease remover. You are to liberally spray a section and then with a paper towel, or better very clean rags, in the other hand wipe off. Wax and grease removers don't evaporate quickly like lacquer thinner and so any residue on the surface is held in suspension while you wipe. In case you ask PPG makes such a thing. You can look at Eastwood's site and find their wax and grease remover.
