I have an 02 base model 4.2L, and am having a problem with the exhaust, am wondering if anyone else is also having it.
My driver side cat is rattling, the dealership confirmed it, but said they had a TSB for it. I am guessing the same cats are used on all the trucks or maybe not but just wondering if anyone else has any insight on this. Umm.. they said that FORD eng. are looking into it and hope to have something in about a month or so,
Well, they showed me the TSB yesterday, it was regarding the catalytic converter itself, and the truck is only a ytear old, not problem with rusting THROUGH anyting yet,m only minor surface rust, as for the rocks and pebbles and sand I checked that out before I ever brought it in, and I have started talkin to people around here who have a newer 150 and alot of them say that they have a slight rattle or sounds like a loose spring or what not under the cab, so it seem to be quite common, just not to erious in most, none of them have had it as loud as the one on my truck...yet. so I seriously doubt that95% of these 150 has rocks caught in the exact same place............p.s. the cat was issued just a few days ago it looked like.
glad to see I am not the only one with this problem.. 1999 F-150 4.2, just like you stated driver side catalytic converter rattle. mine rattles only at about 1000 rpm. will be checking with ford to find a fix.. will post what happens..
Thanks Jimmy.. yup went to the dealer yesterday and found out the rattle is internal on drivers side cat. truck is a 99 with 71k and the emmissions warranty is good for 8 yrs 80k. guess I got lucky..
