64-72 tailgates interchange. They changed the upper panel above the handle slightly in 67. The early ones had a fine lip across this panel and the 67up gates had a kind of raised bar across the width of it. I don't remember if the letters changed or not.

I just went htru the same hassle! The 66 tailgate has larger letters and a moulding ridge about where the two-tome paint brake is. The 67 which are being repro EXACTLY and also overseas have the smaller FORD letters and they are in a "box". I got my tailgate from EBAY that I am using and I got another I found later. The dimestions are the same and it will fit and if you dont care most people will not notice. You can alos search for my questions and the discussion that follow. The 67 repros on ebay look nice but I dont know the metal guage and the cistomer service dept isnt very helpful with additional info. GOOD LUCK!
