Engine smokes white/blue start up and idle

Engines smokes white startup and after idle
I'm new here so first I would like to say thanks for this site, lots of helpful information.

Here is my question, I have a early 1999 7.3l with 167,000 miles. When I first start it up there is a light haze of white/blue smoke coming out the tail pipe, when I take off it leaves a cloud of smoke for .5 mile then clears up. When I get ti town idleing around I notice a puff of smoke when I take off fron stop light.

The temps are in 70 at night so its not cold.

Truck is all stock, no mods that I know of.

I had it hooked up to AE scanner, all the glow plugs checked good, injector buzz good, throw p0472. ( I have a hole in the pipe, have to replace it)

Also threw P0272, P0275, & P0284. Not sure what this means.

Any help?

P0272 Cylinder 4 Contribution/Balance Fault
P0274 Injector Circuit High - Cylinder 5
P0284 Cylinder 8 Contribution/Balance Fault

Have you done a quick check for blowby? Does the exhaust smell like raw fuel and burn your eyes? The balance faults for 3 and 8 can occasionally be due to CPS, but usually not #4. There are multiple things that can cause an imbalance in the combustion event to trigger a change in rotational velocity during the tests.

Since you are getting a #5 high it could be contributing to an imbalance of the entire rotational issue. Have you ohmed out wiring for the injectors?

I have taken the oil cap off and turned it upside down, it slowly slides off due to vibrating some smoke comes out but doesn't seem excessive. The code is P0275 not P0274, sorry I got fat fingers typing.

Ok thats just another balance fault for #5. At you oil fill you just want to usually be concerned with pressure behind it.

When you buzzed them, how did they sound? Nice clean and crisp all the same?

Yes they all sounded about the same to me. Sounded strong I guess, Zack. (zhilton) ran the test for me, he said they sounded good.

Any oil in the tailpipe? Oil if fuel conditions(black fuel filters)?

Yeah, what Big Al said... Injector O-Rings maybe... Check the fuel filter color...

I have changed fuel filter 3 times it looks like fresh fuel, no oil that I can tell. I haven't noticed any oil in the tailpipe , I will have to look closer.

I was just trying to think of other possibilities. What does the smoke smell like? Does it burn your eyes?

I'm not sure, I'll have to get someone to help me. It only smokes when I mash on the accelerator pedal. Just idleing it smells like good old diesel exhaust with Mabey a slight burnt oil smell.

Sorry it took me so long to check this out and respond, my Father-in-law was put in the hospital so we have been out of packet.

Smoke kinda burns eyes, smells like diesel exhaust, fuel. Don't really smell like oil. There is no oil coming out the tailpipe.

I had the same issue - my truck's glow plug relay was going out. If you leave it plugged in does it still start up rough like that? I know when my relay was going out it did that often or if I was trying to turn it over and there was too much fuel in there when it started - which is very possibly related to bad o-rings on the injectors.
