CEL codes

So I poulled the CEL codes and have a couple of questions.

KOEO: 172, 332, 634
KOER: 172, 332, 538

so the 172 is Heated O2 sensor voltage indicates lean
332 is insufficient EGR flow detected/Egr valve opening not detected
634 is manual lever position sensor voltage high or low
538 is failed dynamic engine response test operator error

The truck runs rich, you can smell the fuel in the exhaust, so is this most likely a bad O2 sensor, this is what I am leaning torwards.

The EGR valve opening flow issue can I pull the EGR valve position sensor off and hook up a hand vacuum pump to the EGR valve vacuum port and put a small screw driver in the hole where the position sensor goes, will i be able to test it by observing the screw driver move in and out with the movement of the EGR valve/

The dynamic engine response error was no doubt my error

What is the MLP sensor do?

Matt

What year, model and engine truck do you have? Were there any codes from Continuous Memory (CM)?

MLP(S) is Manual Lever Position Sensor. It's located on the driver side of the transmission that tells the PCM what lever position (gear/neutral/etc.) the transmission lever is in.

For the EGR code, 332 EGR valve opening not detected, yes you can pull the vacuum line off the EGR then apply a known amount of vacuum to measure the EVP output.

It is a 92 F250 351W 4x4. No CM codes with either KOEO or KOER.

I puolled and cleared the codes yesterday morning, but because the truck is new to me I wanted to see what codes it was throwing. the codes I listed are the fresh ones. the old codes were the same with the exception of not MLPS code before and there was a code for the ECT on the previous set.

Thanks
Matt

Code 172: HEGO sensor circuit indicates system lean can be caused by a faulty fuel pressure regulator, low fuel pressure, vacuum leaks and/or an exhaust leak(s) before the O2 sensor as well as a leak close to it downstream. I would suggest not replacing an O2 sensor until you verify the above items are not triggering a false lean code.

We already touched on Code 332.

Code 634 is related to the MLPS. Some great info from Steve83 located here: Steve83 MLPS info | SuperMotors.net
