If the PO had a different head unit, and returned it to stock, there could be some cut and spliced wiring behind the radio. I've used cut clothes hanger in the 4 holes of the stock head unit to release them,, but ymmv.

I've also had good luck with bailing wire and finishing nails for the head unit removal. They're not ideal, but can work in a pinch. Just gotta get the right diameter (wire hangers work perfectly as mentioned). You can also get the head unit removal tool and some auto parts store, usually pretty cheap.

doubt it will help but pics posted under my albums.my truck and things i like? it is there i posted new pics just now.just dont know how to put them here.this is a wire nightmare for me.
I would hook them up, then turn it on to test. You don't want to short the outputs on the deck, otherwise you'll be forkin' out money for that. Also, make sure any bare wires aren't touching anything.
Maybe get some alligator clips on a 12" piece of wire to test them with? Might save you a little time. Make sure to put your fader/balance back to center.
And just so you don't feel alone in the "stereo troubleshooting" department, I'm sorting out issues with mine as well.
ok todays radio gig......finaly had all 4 speakers cranking away.sounded realy good two. i go to push the deck back in and as soon as it snapped inplace all sound shut off.now i gots no speakers.clock shows on sterio, stations tune in but no sound....got to looking around at the deck while i had it out.i dont think the plug or the deck were origanal.going to a junk yard to see if i can find a deck and harness. after the radio is fixed i am moveing to the cruiz controll and then to the tire rubbing issue.stay tuned.lol...with sound
