Dealer installed A/C ?

Found my original owners manual. When was A/C first available in Ford trucks?

The very first was a block of ice under the horse carriage with a fan driven off the axle that blew the cooled air. (I just read that)

This new/old truck I just picked up had an A/C installed at some time in it's life. And from the original owners manual it looks like the A/C was installed at purchase. I was just curious as to what year A/C was a dealer installed accessory.
It looks like other auto manufacturers have been installing them for many years prior to 65.
What blew me away was the way my floor shift got bent in such a strange way. Took me a minute to figure that one out.
Thanks for gettin back to me.

A/C available beginning in 1901 (invented by Carrier), but only used primarily in commercial buildings/private residences. USS Lexington & Saratoga (commissioned 1927) were the first warships to have A/C, but only in certain sections of these two aircraft carriers.

Packard invented the A/C system first installed in vehicles, optional beginning in 1940, available thru 1942. Known as 'Trunk A/C' as the unit was mounted inside the trunk, the two A/C ducts were located flat on the package tray.

The A/C controls were mounted below the center of the dash. Chrome Air Conditioning nameplates were either mounted on the sidemount covers, without sidemounts, mounted on the R/L hood sides.

No 1946/52 vehicles were available with A/C. Post War sellers market, GM's plan was to offer optional A/C in 1950, but the Korean War severely limited the usage of chrome, copper and freon.

GM offered A/C in 1953 Cadillac/Oldsmobile/Buick, similar Trunk A/C as Packard, except made by GM Division Frigid-Aire. The two clear plastic A/C ducts protruded from the package tray.

The A/C drew in fresh air from the outside with a duct on each quarter panel. The same A/C was offered for '54 Pontiac. A friend has a 1954 Pontiac 4 door with two rare options, full leather and A/C, car was sold new in NM

A/C introduced in 1955 FoMoCo Passenger Cars, was a hang on unit (Polar-Aire), bolted to the bottom of the dash. Lincoln's, some Merc's used V2 Leece-Neville compressors.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There were two different types of dealer A/C available for 1965 F100/250's. The most common used the same chrome steel hang-on bezel as 1963/65 Falcon/Fairlane Mustang.

The bezel has four round registers (O) with the two A/C switches (o) mounted between: O o O O o O / Above the center registers is the Ford crest emblem (coat of arms).

1966's used the same setup, the only difference was the bezel color. 1963/65 bezel was painted argent gray surrounding the registers/switches, 1966 was painted charcoal.

1967 F100/350's used this same bezel. All these bezels contain the evaporator core, expansion valve and the blower motor, as did the following:

Also available in 1965/66 was dealer installed Rotunda A/C. The chrome bezel has 4 smaller in diameter round registers (same as 1961/63 T-Bird). The two A/C switches are mounted one above the other, far left: 8 O O O O

Rotunda was a brand of accessories FoMoCo offered in the early/mid 1960's.
