Need Help With T19 Trans

Hey guys I'm in need of some help with my 85 F250 trans. I accidentally pulled the reverse shifter arm pivot screw while doing a trans gear oil change. The diagram I have says there is a "c" clip that goes on the end to keep the arm on but it didn't come out with the screw. I can't find any part numbers for the screw or the clip, nor do I know how to line everything back up. I pulled the top of the tranny and took some pics. The first shows the arm resting where I found it and the second shows the arm and the screw. Notice the resessed area on the end. I am assuming this is where the c clip goes but I've also heard that an o-ring goes there. So I guess my questions are: What is the part number for the c clip and is there an o-ring? How to properly put the arm back in and replace the top case/shifter. Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I've been looking for a diagram with part numbers for two days...you are the man! So it looks like all I need is the clip; and I can only assume that the old one is sitting in the bottom of the trans

Not sure you can snake one of these down inside that gear box:

Worth a shot, I think we have a couple of those magnetic retrievers at work. Looking at the diagram it seems like removing the PTO cover would get me closer to the bottom and could make fishing for it a little easier. Any reason not to do this? I'm not versed in transmissions at all.

No, there's no problem in doing that. You will be able to reach inside & check over the floor of the trans. There should be two covers - if you take both off, it gives much better access & light.

There's a magnet welded to the floor of the tranny that will be covered in fine metallic particles, which you can clean off while you're in there.
The clip may even be stuck to the magnet, but probably not.

When I bought my T19 & opened it up, there was a bearing ball, & two different sized rollers stuck to that magnet - it wasn't what I had wanted to see.
But I found where they had come from, & fortunately all was well.

I don't think you will have much trouble refitting the lever, having 85e150six4mtod's diagram as a guide.
I think if you hold the lever in position, with the tab (part 38) engaged in it's slot, you will be able to screw the pivot bolt back into the case & through the lever; then install the clip.

This seems to happen regularly with T19 oil changes

Good luck

There's two PTO covers on a T-19, you can see right through.

She's back on the road! Can't thank you guys enough. I had one left over part (pic) but it's something external and I just didn't have the energy to find out where it goes. I also pulled one of the PTO covers and saw some shavings on the magnet but no old c-clip. I didn't hear anything rattling around when I drove though. I may drop her off at the shop and have them put some new sealant on the top case and PTO cover I removed and see if they can find it.

Looks like a build tag.
Clean it off and post the numbers.

E4T3-VA is a Borg-Warner T19A 4-speed, used 1984/85 in F250/350 with 6.9/7.5 engines

Those tags I think are on the top-right of the top cover. I would reattach it somewhere on there, those tags come in quite useful sometimes.

Yup, E4T3-7003-VA is a T-19 for a 4x4 460, 1984/85

You can find it listed in the 1980-89 Ford Light Trucks Parts Catalog, section 70, Transmission Application Chart on page 15.

The 460 4WD version has the very deep 6.32:1 first gear!
I heaped a lot of abuse on mine before I finally swapped in the 5 speed ZF.

Yep.

Where it specifically identifies it as a T19A, I have no idea what the difference is but it's apparently different than just a T19 for some reason.

Probably the extra low first gear...
Most applications (diesel, 2WD 460 and Windsors) had a 4.02:1 first gear
