Bump Steer
I just had a Superlift 6" lift put on my 84 bronco last night. It included all new bushings, rear leafs, superrunner steering, radius arms, shocks and the lift.
The shop alinged it but now I have severe bump steer. I had it all put in by a large well known 4x4 supplier. Has anybody run into this problem? Should I get a second opinion from another shop?
Was the lift installed correctly (maybe cockeyed) ?
Thanks, Snapper1

First, lets see some pictures of that bad boy!!
As for the bump steer, I had a super-runner steering system on one of my race trucks and didn't like it a whole lot, but I don't think this is your problem. After some fabricating I made it strong enough to hold up, but thats a whole different LONG story. Back to your truck. Did they re-install the anti-sway bar or leave it off?

My Bronco did not come from the factory with swaybars at all.
Options include p/s,p/b and a locking hood. Thats it. I should also mention that it has a brand new set of Pro Comp Xterra tires that are running at the correct tire pressure. All was well before lift with the mentioned tires.Just after lift all hell broke loose.
Thanks

I honestly don't think the lift was installed incorrectly. Remember, when you lift a truck everything changes - it will never drive as nice as stock. Also, the Superlift springs are really soft, which I like, but you do feel it in the wheel. Your truck MUST have a swaybar, though.. I've never seen a Bronco without one. I throw mine in the trash, but then I need the suspension to move free for what I do. Perhaps it had one and the installers removed it instead of extending it?

I am not kidding,no swaybars from the factory. I called to friend I bought truck from and he was original owner. He said he never removed. I have build sheet and under row H #23 says "STAB. BARS" and no code.

Well I guess you learn something new everyday!
I guess I have just been unfortunate enough to always get 'em with the bars. (Cuz I throw em away)
Does your truck have the quad shocks on the front or just single? And if it has quad, did they put 4 shocks in or two?

Single shocks up front. All 4 replaced. As for the condition of the front end if that might be your next question. All new ball joints, ujoints, bearings, rotors, calipers, brakes and manual hubs. I have spent nearly $4,000 in the last 2 months creating this monster.

Well then I am truly stumped. Sounds like you did everything right. My only advice at this point would be to bring it back to the alignment shop... Because there really is no way to install a lift "crooked." Could be the softer springs, too. But I guess a good place to start would be at the alignment shop... or maybe go to a different one. The guys that align my rig specialize in semi's so they can handle my big tires and junk. They always get it right on the money. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Not sure how the suspension on a 84 bronco works in the front but "Bumpsteer" is caused by the front suspension compressing and shortening the distance between the pitman arm or steering box and whichever steering knuckle the drag link attaches to. For example on my 99 f-350 the drag link goes from the steering box on the drivers side over to the pass side knuckle. If I have my track bar off when the suspension compresses then that knuckle moves up in relation to the steering box shortening that distance.
When this happens 1 of 2 consequences must occur. Either the pitman arm moves and moves the steering wheel to take up the distance lost or the pitman arm stays stationary and the passenger side steering knuckle is forced outward to allow for the shorter distance thus turning the front tires to the right. That is bumpsteer. When you hit a bump your rig turns. Sway bars and tires have nothing to do with it. It's all about the suspension.
Do you have any pics you can post? If so I can probably tell you why you have bumpsteer.

Check your pitman arm for proper fit on the pitman shaft splines. I installed a 4" Superlift kit with superunner steering several years ago. What I found was the pitman arm that came with the kit was thinner where it bolts to the pitman shaft than the factory arm. The bolt and lockwasher were tightening up against the pitman shaft itself and not "squeezing" the arm enough allowing a lot of play to develop. You may need a large flat washer to take up the clearance so the arm slides farther up the splines taper and tightens correctly.
Other than that the kit works well. The superunner steering kit eliminated almost all of the bump steer the stock setup had.

BINGO!!!!
Thank you mjb1962
It's always a 10 cent part that makes things fall into place.
I went back a spoke to shop that installed the lift and they said they never seen this problem before.
Thanks all,
