I would like to swap out a damaged rearend in my 79 Ford F350, Trailer Special, 460 c.i. C6 automatic. The current rearend is a Dana 70, 7400lb capacity.
What years will swap in?
Thanks
Fred
what did you do to break a d70??? Measure your frame width, most of the trucks that had the 70 were the narrow frame width like the high boys, chassis cabs, and 2wd F350's. The narrow frames had narrower spring perches so a rear end from a wider frame wouldn't swap over. Having said that, I believe the d70 only came under the narrow frame trucks, so probably any D70 would fit as far as spring pad width. Some people will tell you that the dually trucks like the chassis cabs used a narrower axle, however, at one point in time I had 3 D70's here off both single and dual rear wheel trucks and they were all the exact same width (and all were the narrow spring pad width).
The rear is not broken, just growling REAL bad. 66000 miles. Full of fluid. The truck was used to pull a 5th wheel.
I have found out that the only rear that will bolt in comes from a F350 truck from 1974 to 1979. I have located just one rear in New York State. I will be picking that one up tonight.
Thanks for the reply.
Fred
