I had a pair of three chamber flowmasters installed recently, I didn't split and run into two mufflers, I have a pipe for each side, front to back. Would there be any benefit if I install headers? I haven't tampered with the converters. I thought about having the front converters gutted, but was afraid it might interfere with the computer. If headers would be a plus, can you recommend a company? Also, can you clue me in about these throttlebody spacers I have been hearing about for these engines?
Thanks
I dont have any experience with headers on these but I do know that you dont want to gut the convertors. There is what looks like an O2 sensor behind them. It is actually a catalyst monitor. If the convertors arent working right it will set a code and turn on the check engine light.

Is that dual pipe setup stock? Headers are always a great buy. Plus, they make a vehicle sound great (my blood bubbles when I hear a big block with headers roll by). I am running a pair of Bassani Ceramic Coated headers now on my 96 Bronco and I love them. Bassani manufactures very high quality components (www.bassani.com). I agree with Racerguy, do not alter your catalytic convertors. If you want more flow, purchase high flow aftermarket units. I was lucky, Bassani made a complete package for my truck (headers, high flow Y pipe with high flow cat, and catback). What year and motor is your truck? As for throttle body spacers, I wouldnt waste my money. I bought one for my '01 F150 and I didnt notice any real improvements. I did notice a distinct whistling throughout the entire RPM range. I pulled it off a few months later.
Thanks for the input. I drove the same '78 custom F-100 for 23 years before I bought this 2000 F-150. I would never part with her. I'll hang onto her to drive when this newer one breaks down. The 351 W has long tube headers with two chamber flowmasters, and the new truck really suffers by comparison, when it comes to sound and hp.
