C4AE-B according to Steve Crist's book is a 64 cast iron 427 crank, and should fit in any FE block and will replace a 390 crank since it has same stroke and journal diameters but might have to be ballanced just to be safe. I would always ballance when I change any rotation part.
So it may not be worth buying?
on part of it it says 66-427
so is that a 427 crank?
And if it is... If I put it in my 390 what would it make it? a 410?
A 427 block with 428 crank is the FE dream motor. It can be yours for $6-10K :-)
You can even go longer on the stroke with a SCAT crank and bigger on the bore with a new Aluminum block from genesis or Shelby. With these combos you can go over 500 Cubes in your FE :-)
It only takes money and time. Anybody else short on these?
I am short too. I wish I still had the $3000 I sold my 427 for back in 89, or just the 427. Only now I'd go with a hydraulic cam instead of the solid, them things Love to bend push rods!!
I'm short on money, plenty on time tho.
I sure wish I had a 428 crank tho... As my 390 is completely apart.
Im just waiting for friday so I can order my HV oil pump, ARP Rod Bolts, and then its ready to put back together...
While it was a part I sure wish I coulda got a 428 crank tho... Id love to have a 410.
I guess i'll have to be happy with what I got for it tho...
Heres what I got.
Dynomax Headers w/ Coolit Headerwrap
Crane Powermax Hydraulic Cam .501/.533 lift, .265/.275 duration (not a big chugger I dont think, but it pulls from 1200 to 5800)
AutoMeter 5 inch tach w/ chrome ring and external shift light
New bearings, rings, gaskets, etc.
Repainted the whole motor Old Ford Blue.
and Im rebuilding the C6 w/ a B&M shift kit.
If I had some 3.50 gears Id throw my positrack back in it, but im stuck w/ 2.75s
But I guess that'll have to work for now...
Unless one of you want to give me a late birthday present of a 428 crank. lol j/k
Don't feel too bad, it's a common mistake among former Chevy owners Actually, Ford had a 427 a year or two before Chevy. And they came in five different versions ( according to the heads) I used to get a good laugh out of the Chevy guys who , thinking I had a Chevy 454 under the hood of my 67 Stang, would scratch they're heads when they saw it ( if you over bored a 427 Ford .030 and stroked it using a 428 crank, you ended up with a "Ford" 454)
If Im not mistaken my truck is now a 396.... 390 bored .30 over..
I'll have fun w/ that also if it is actually a 396, but I forgot how to multiply to get liters/cubic inches
