Help before mod..pics inside!

About to to the CAI mod on my '00 7.3L and I would like some clear answers on what I have already in there. I know its just a replacement for the stock filter itself but I am going to replace the whole unit. Wondering what the little part coming off my turbo is, if its good, and if i should keep it there. Next question is why do I have so many reductions? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

Jeremy

Well ill give explaining a shot. Got a K&N replacement for the stock air filter. The square insert.. Attached to that is what seems is a 5" hose connecting to this 4" attached piece that I believe catches oil/water (possibly, ran my fingers in there and there is oil so thats my best guess) which connects so a pretty solid rubber hose that looks to be only 3" which then inserts into my turbo. I am confused by all of this.

It's my crank case vent or whatever. I'll have to do that mod to eliminate that piece..

So you've got a K&N cold air intake kit? That should come with the filter, a long plastic tube, and a rubber coupler, right? The filter goes where the stock airbox goes. The take the factory tube off the factory airbox back to that center plastic support that has oil inside. Leave that plastic center support piece and the reducer hose that goes between that and the turbo along.

Your long plastic tube goes from the center plastic piece to the air filter. Seems like there's a rubber coupler that holds the new plastic k&n tube to the stock center piece.

if you can do both mods at the same time. it would just save a couple of steps doing them together. if you cant do them at the same time its no problem.

Unfortunately its just a K&N filter to replace the stock filter. The original square box is still intact. As for now, since I can't do the CCV mod I'm going to use existing stock intake tube and just connect the 6637 intake filter to existing tubing

That combination has a very poor reputation for filtering dirt. Some have had success with it, others have ended up with dusted turbos or dusted engines from the amount of dirt that gets through. Be very careful and keep an eye on that. The first time you see any signs of dust in the tube between the stock box and the turbo, change. If you wipe your finger inside that tube, there should not be enough dust inside for your finger to leave a clean mark.

Not really ridiculous, it is just another way that we try to stave off certain kinds of spammers.
