The stock muffler on my truck (1999 F250 with 6.8) was getting pretty rusty and although not leaking I figured it gave me a good excuse to change it... I replaced it with a Flowmaster 40 series and an 18 inch stick of 3" pipe. I didn't use all of the pipe I just cut it to fit and everything worked great. I also added a 12 inch tip that worked great, I cut the old pipe just before the bend and heat shield then welded this in its place.
The sound is a little louder but not near as loud as I thought it was going to be, it basically just gave it a little louder more mellow sound.
Topped off the tank of fuel right after install and manually calculated 12.6mpg (10.9 on overhead but reset it anyway), hopefully this will yeild a little gain..
Haul an 8k lb load and report back on the drone inside your truck. My Flowmaster 40 lasted about 3 days and I trashed it.
The most I haul is about 3000-4000 may haul more on occasion but very seldom, With no load it has very little drone in the cab but its not as load as I had expected so it may have something to do with the factory cat... I will comment back after some good use..
So far I can't tell much as far as mileage still around 13mpg. But drone is almost none existant, it has just a little but nothing like I thought it would be and the truck is still not as loud as I thought it would be either, it maybe the cat making it quite..
I really need to get a clip of my truck with the Dynomax VT for you guys, very nice tone. Anyone around Central WI wanna meet up for a beer n video my truck for me? All I have is my cell for taking vids.
I had a flowmaster original 40 series installed last week, 3" in to dual 2.5" out. I really like it, coming from straight pipes it is super quiet. You can't even hardly hear it on the highway over the drone of my tires. Very pleased.
