Montana my father always told me beauty is in the eye of the beholder and a good deal is a state of mind. I paid quite a bit more than 500.00 but half as much as my Polaris Ranger. By the time I put new tires on due to dry-rot. I will a little over 6000.00

Are those the original split rims? (hard to decipher from the pics).

Double Chicken,

My impression is you did very well. Your truck looks really nice, and as Montana said, "unmolested". Trucks like yours can be hard to find. My personal opinion is it's cheaper in the long run to buy one like yours than to buy one that's had a hard life and try and restore it. Good oem parts can be hard to find.

I'm partial to the styling of the 1976 and 1977 models (that's my favorite grille style), I like the side tool box and the factory bed hooks as well.

Sadly I'm not a fan of the Benchwork steering modification. I have a '73 F-250 4x4 and that has a very similar setup (same 2wd integral box and PS pump). I've been disappointed in it since day one.

My truck didn't have power steering at all so one could argue it's better than nothing, but the later integral PS boxes as used on the '78-'79 F-250 4x4 and '79 F-350 4x4 are IMHO vastly superior. I'm in the process of converting to that setup.

Congratulations, welcome to the forum, and please keep us posted!

Such a sweet truck. I love those camper special wheels with stock hubcaps. had the same set up on a 70 high boy.

DoubleChicken hasn't had his ears on here since Nov 2012. Bummer, because I love his truck and sure would like to see more of it!

Hey everyone, first post. Odd place for it, I know. Here's the reason:

I think I bought this exact truck. I recently purchased a 76 F250 High-Boy and aside from a few cosmetic differences, my truck and this truck are identical down to the dent on the driver's side of the hood. Mileage is eerily close as well, with this truck at 76k in 2012 and mine at 78k now.

The truck has different tires and wheels, different hubs, and the rust along the driver's side bedside and bed itself have been fixed.

I'd like to get a hold of this guy and find out more information about the truck. I bought it from a yard that sells salvage vehicles but the title is clean on mine. It runs great, steering is a little sloppy, and needs a little TLC but overall its a really nice truck and I'm happy to have it.

I look forward to future conversations about these awesome trucks.

Welcome to FTE, and Merry Christmas! Looks like you got a great truck there! I was a fan of it when DoubleChicken owned it, and I still am. I sure hope to see more pictures of it.

Edit: I just noticed you live in Midlothian, TX. That's where my sister lives and where my entire family will be celebrating Christmas Eve in a few hours, all except me as I have a cold and don't want to get anyone sick. Lol.

Thanks and Merry Christmas to you as well!

Here are a few pics from when I recently got it. I haven't done anything other than fix a few electrical hiccups to get it inspected and titled here in TX. After messing around in there I bought a complete wire harness. I still need to install it but after that I'll probably add the aero 32 gallon fuel tank just to get it out of the way.

In the meantime I need to figure out why the steering is sloppy. The connection between the tie rod and spindle was loose so it was tightened and the cotter pin was replaced. That fixed a lot of the problem but it's still not "right" to me. May have something to do with the tires. I'd like to drop down to a 285/70/17 from the current 35x12.5x17. I'd love to get a hold of the original wheels and hubcaps that DoubleChicken had on it. I'm 99.9% sure that these trucks are the same.

Well, my Christmas present to you is a nice set of type 2 hub caps.

Edit: I see that you decided to stay with the wheels that you have on it and don't need the caps.

Very nice. I'd take the factory wheels and hubcaps over these aftermarket chrome wheels any day.

Those aftermarket chrome wheels are sharp. What are your plans for them? My 74 F 250 still wears its factory 16.5's and stock original hubcaps.
