Does anyone know what the P0705 code is on a 2000 Excursion V-10?
Thanks!

Thank you! I just scanned it and have several more codes. Do you know what these are? I appreciate your help!
P305 misfire #5
P1702 TRS CKT intermittent fault
P0722 output speed sensor no signal
P0720 output speed sensor CKT fault
P0503 VSS Intermittent

I have no clue what all this means?

P305 misfire #5 you have a misfire on cylinder #5, check your coil/boot
P1702 TRS CKT intermittent fault check your transmission range sensor
P0722 output speed sensor no signal
p0722 and p0720 check your output speed sensor

P0720 output speed sensor CKT fault
P0503 VSS Intermittent vehicle speed sensor needs to be checked

is it shifting right? is your speedo working correctly? check your coil boot for cracks or humidity or just buy a new coil (99% chance it's that)

probably need to bring this to a certified mechanic, none of the parts are over the top expensive (the labor on the other hand almost always is) unless you're mechanic savvy

Sometimes it seems like the torque converter locks up and wants to kill the engine when im stopped at a light. Sometimes it feels like it doesnt want to lock up on the interstate but the rest of the time its fine. I can work on it myself just have trouble figuring out what the codes mean. I really appreciate all your help!

I cleared all the codes. It ran ok for about 5 miles then started acting up again with the o/d light flashing etc... For about 5 miles then ive drove it about 100 miles since with no problem! Im really hoping its fixed but dont want to get excited yet cause im puzzled as to why it still messed up for a bit after resetting? Thanks for all the help!

More issues

Well, having issues again. I put the vehicle speed sensor in and it seemed fine for a few weeks. Now it dies if Im trying to back out my drive (which is backing uphill), it surges at stop lights and the O/D light starts flashing. Sometimes after driving it for awhile it seems to get worse if you are in town with alot of stops. It got so bad yesterday it was not wanting to shift out of second but today, Ive had no problems, its drove fine all day (drove about 70 miles) which makes me think it has to be something electrical like a sensor or something? Its still throwing the P0503 (which I did not clear after replacing so Im assuming that ones fixed) and its still showing P0720 and P0722 and the engine light has come on again.
Where is the Output speed sensor located on the V-10?

I say COP's, which could be isolated to the coil, spring and/or boots. I think that if you take it to a shop that can monitor your misfires you would find that you have one or two COP's that are not doing there job. I had a similar issue and new COP's fixed the issue.

Have you verified transmission fluid level? Fords are notorious for stalling when the trasmission fluid level drops, or the line pressure drops too much (especially reverse). The torque convertor clutch is activated when pressure is removed. As a result, when fluid level drops and the fluid become aerated, or line pressure drops due to a weak pump or other internal leak or clogged filter etc, the torque convertor clutch will begin to engage or engage completely, stalling the motor or causing erratic idle and all kinds of codes. You may have checked all of the aforementioned items, but at the very least a gauge should be installed in the line pressure port to verify pump pressure. This issue ate my lunch for the better part of 2 days when I repaired vehicles for a living...Just my .02!

Oh! one other thing, check powers and grounds that affect the transmission. A faulty ground or power circuit causes issues over a wide area, whereas a fault in a control circuit will cause specific codes. Ok so thats .04 now...

Mustang,

GOOD LUCK on yours...I just wanted to mention that someone indicated disconnecting the battery AFTER the VSS is replaced...kind of like when you replace or clean the MAF sensor you need to do a battery disconnect too...

Joe.
