Ive got an 84 f150 with a rebuilt 300i6 automatic, an engine that I just rebuilt about a year ago... I was going down the freeway about 60-70 miles an hour an in started slugging on me as if I have a miss... I recently replaced all my plugs and got new plug wires, timed it and all... so unless my tranny in slipping at high rpms what could it be??
check your ATF level and smell it. You could have other problems, but that is the easiest to check. Most of the time you will feel the tranny hitting and letting off when you take off.
If the tranny fluid seems O.K. it is most likely a fuel delivery problem. Maybe a pump going out. Fuel filters get plugged, but you usually can't get them up to freeway speeds with a clogged filter.
I agree with the fuel delivery theory - check the weep hole on the fuel pump. If there is gas dripping under the rig immediately after shutdown that's the problem.
it could also be water in your gas. This is a bad time of year for that because of the large rang in temperature from day to night(which causes condensation) try putting in dry gas and not letting your tank go below 30% fuel level because as the fuel goes out it will draw in air and if the air has moisture in it it will end up in your tank.
Call me silly, but I would first look at those new plugs / wires you installed - make sure all the wires are attached at both ends tightly. Also, did you do the cap and rotor at the same time? If not, there could be an issue there, too.
