My 79 460 got ABOUT 20 mpg until i checked it close ,then it was 10 mpg--.

With a 300 and a 4-speed, it's not that unrealistic. I could see him scraping 20 coasting down the highway at 55 in 4th gear. He probably gets 15 to 17 in town. That's a nice truck.

He does say it's a 6 cylinder...and 300's have been known to approach the 18-20mpg range with the right gearing and right trans. With some 2.75-3.08's and a 4spd, I bet he gets closer to 20 than you guys think. Hell, I can routinely get 14mpg's hwy out of my mildly built 400's.

Well I'm getting really good mileage around town. I need to check it, but I bet I'm close to 20. The hwy mpg's are crap because I'm doing 70 with 4.10's and the TC isn't efficient. Can't seem to drain the tank around town. I'll run the gps on the next tank and let you know.
