I have diagnosed my horn not working all the way down to the pressure switch (I don't know what it is called) on the air bag.
That is my question: what do you call the part? Can it be purchased by itself?
You can see it in the pics. The last pic is me putting pressure on the pad and my meter does not recognize the pressure. If I twist and press it enough it will 'close the circuit', but once I have reassembled everything I cant get it to budge.
Also, is it ok to drive around without the airbag in place?
The piece is called a Horn Membrane Switch. Made by Pressac in Cullman, AL. That facilty has since been closed down. Still waiting to hear from Pressac headquarters in Nottingham, UK if they still make the part.
In my research I have discovered many other vehicles experience the same failure and all of their solutions were the same....buy a new airbag...which I am trying to avoid. The least expensive airbag I have found for the Ex so far is $150.
I wonder if adding a couple of these bumpers like they use on cabinet doors under the cover would make a difference. Maybe you just have to find the sweet spot and place one of these over it.
